James III And Carlo Lauro Collaborate For ‘The Powerpuff Girls: Supervillain Summer Spectacular’

Summer is a fine time in the city of Townsville, and the Powerpuff Girls are ready for the sun. But the city’s supervillain community is also out to have fun. Well, their brand of it anyway. And the focus is on the Townsville Amusement Park. Soon, the girls discover “all the rides clogged by lawbreakers and malefactors, extending all the lines around the corners and having a blast.” And it’s all the Mayor’s doing? Can Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup figure out the true cause of the Mayor’s baffling decision to invite the villains for a day at the park? Or will it be time to impeach him?
It’s a Powerpuff Girls: Supervillain Summer Spectacular only writer James III and artist Carlo Lauro could deliver.
“I’m a day one Powerpuff Girls fan! I remember watching the first What a Cartoon! short and re-enacting it with my friends on the playground the next day,” the writer said in a statement. “Writing this was a dream and to say I’m honored would be a tremendous understatement. PPG is one of the funniest, most action-packed superhero properties out there. I had the time of my life … Carlo is such a versatile artist with an uncanny ability to capture the essence of many timeless, beloved characters and their multitude of expressions. He and [editor] Nate [Crosby] have contributed so much to the PPG comic book legacy, I knew I was in good hands working with them on this issue.”
The oversized special issue is supported by covers from Lauro, Silvia De Ventura, and George Kambadais.
The Powerpuff Girls: Supervillain Summer Spectacular is due out this July.
