Preview: ‘Kid Kong Goes Bananas’ – Bonkers Banana Mayhem From Monster Fun

Although the monthly kids comic Monster Fun may be no more, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get more Monster Fun in collected form… including a certain banana-loving Kid…

Created by the genius that was Robert Nixon for the very first issue of the classic Brit humour comic Monster Fun in 1975, it was an obvious strip to bring back for recent (and sadly too short) revival of Monster Fun. This new collection brings you all the best from the new strips by Alec Worley and Karl Dixon – ape antics and banana bwah-ha-ha

You don’t need to know anything to jump straight into this one, you’ve got Kid Kong, always on the look out for more bananas, always managing to mess up somehow, who lives with his slightly dotty human Gran (yes, human gran, don’t worry about it, just go with it.)

It’s gloriously clever, stupid stuff, short strips packed with visual and verbal comedy, the sort of thing that’s so easy to read but so hard to do.

I mean, look at this… Kid Kong and Gran looking after a friend’s Cat Cafe full of bonkers cats, despite Kid having allergies, and then the world’s villainous cats overthrowing their owners and forming FLOOF – the public are definitely advised to panic – IMMEDIATELY! And topping it all off, there’s the cat in the bottom right having a quiet pee with a little bit of reading matter… that’s just funny…

Yes, so much funny. Like this, with Kid finding Gran’s old time-travel scooter, meeting Cleopatra and then getting sent off to deal with a mummy…

One more and then I’ll leave you with some preview pages. This time, Kid’s raising money for a charity wanting to fix the roof on Monsterville Town Hall and, as luck would have it, there’s a talent show with the exact right amount of cash on offer. Cue the silliness. I mean, what isn’t funny about a giant gorilla playing all six verses of Baby Shark on his bottom…

Yep, loads of silly fun, great comedy comics are rare things and should be cherished and praised and passed into the hands of kids whenever they can. Because those kids are going to love Kid Kong.
