Marvel’s ‘Black Cat’ Returns In New Series From Wilson & Melnikov
by Tony Thornley
Felicia Hardy is the Marvel Universe’s ultimate bad girl, stealing and scheming across the Universe. In August though, Black Cat takes on a new role she’s never had before- super hero.

Coming from G. Willow Wilson and Gleb Melnikov, the new ongoing series spins directly out of Amazing Spider-Man’s big summer storyline. It will find Felicia testing her luck up against the super-villains and gangsters of the Marvel Universe, including some of Spidey’s biggest. Has she really had a change of heart though, or is her heroic turn just a cover for her biggest scheme yet?
Outside of Spider-Man, Felicia most recently appeared in Avengers. I personally wondered if it would lead to a heroic turn. Though that appearance didn’t directly spin into this series, clearly we’re going to see a more noble turn for her soon. This series will also be Wilson’s first extended Marvel work in her acclaimed Ms. Marvel ended.
“As soon as Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood dropped and people saw the Black Cat story, readers began to ask me ‘When are you going to write more Felicia?’ Well, the answer is: right now,” Wilson shared. “Black Cat is so much fun to work with. She’s a supporting character with main character energy. And she has such a rich history that there are tons of tantalizing story threads to pull on.”
“I was itching to draw more of Felicia after finishing my first Spider-Man issue, so when [Editor] Tom Groneman asked if I was interested in working on the BLACK CAT series, I typed ‘YES!’ faster than a lightning bolt,” Melnikov said. “Black leather, street-level fights, and the chance to draw our favorite usual suspects from Spidey’s rogues gallery? Sign me up! Not to mention I’m very excited to work with Willow and color artist Brian Valenza.”
Check out the series first revealed covers, from Adam Hughes, Jeehyung Lee, Peach Momoko, and SImone Di Meo, and watch for Black Cat this summer from Marvel Comics.
