Danny Rand Returns In September’s ‘Undead Iron Fist’
by Tony Thornley
Last year, Marvel celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of Iron Fist by… well, killing Iron Fist. The publisher has promised that it’s to set up big plans, and now we know what those plans are.

Debuting in September, the four issue Undead Iron Fist brings Danny Rand back from the dead, and reveals some dark secrets about the legacy of the Iron Fist. Danny’s journey will be chronicled by rising stars Jason Loo and Fran Galan as he seeks to find the truth behind K’un L’un’s darkest secrets and expose their lies.
THE IRON FIST RISES!
The Book of the Iron Fist declares that every Iron Fist will die by the age of 33…but who created this false prophecy? Danny Rand was killed…but can you truly kill an Immortal Iron Fist? Learn the truth about the legacy of the Iron Fist as Danny Rand rises once more to snuff out those that threaten that legacy…before Danny’s time run out.
“I was so relieved to not encounter any fan backlash or outrage when I killed off Danny Rand. Because there was always a plan to bring him back, but we wanted to make the fans wait,” Loo explained. “Not only was I busy plotting his next explosive chapter, Danny has been going through his own journey to find his way back into the 616 land of the living. And from the very first issue, he’s back swinging with ruthless vengeance. Artist Fran Galán is bringing so much wicked kineticism on every page, readers are going to be floored by this book.”

First of all, LOVE the adjective Undead for this story. I hope we see it start to pop up more.
Loo has done some really fun limited series for Marvel over the last few years, and I enjoyed the prelude to this story from the anniversary special. The hook is fantastic, and points to some horror that martial arts stories don’t get into often. I also hope this leads into an ongoing series, as Danny is one of Marvel’s best lead characters that often ends up in limbo.
