Palmiotti & Qualano To Chart A New Course For ‘Blue Falcon & Dynomutt’ At Dynamite

Another Hanna-Barbera superhero team is joining the comic book realm.

Dynamite announced on Wednesday the imminent arrival of The Blue Falcon & Dynomutt. The comic book series from writer Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Pasquale Qualano takes its cues from the 1976 animated Dynomutt, The Dog Wonder segments of The Scooby-Do/Dynomutt Hour. The Saturday morning cartoon charted the adventures of the heroic Blue Falcon and his clumsy robot dog Dynomutt. They solved crimes and got into comical scrapes. The segments graduated to their own program and, thanks to subsequent re-airings, embedded itself in the minds of the kids watching at home.

But in this modern take on the characters (without a laugh track), the daring duo must approach things a little differently. For Big City inventor and art collector Radley Crown and his faithful canine companion, a charmed life in a skyscraper dramatically changes when a “vicious gang shatters their complacency.” The attack will bring forth something new in the city as Crown uses his know-how to rebuild himself and his canine best friend, adopting the identities of The Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, Dog Wonder, in the process.

“This is not the origin of Blue Falcon, but a story about a man and his dog and their connection throughout a major event in both their lives,” Palmiotti said in a statement. “Number one for me in writing this series is that it has to be fun — well, my version of fun anyway. I will say that some of it is much darker than people might remember, but it makes sense to the characters. I updated the world around them a bit for sure.”
