LDC Digital Comics Fair — Where To Find The New & Exciting Talent Driving The Future Of Comics

We’ve talked of LDComics before here at Comicon, the largest women-led comics forum in the UK, a place open to all, pushing the medium forward and championing excellent new comic works. And now they’re holding their very first LDComics online comics fair, running from today through 31st July…
LDComics is all about comics in all their forms, bringing comics to a wider community and allowing many underrepresented groups to find their voice in the comics medium.
This July, in their 15th year, LDC is putting on its very first online digital comics fair, very much in the Shortbox/Nib & Ink festival model. Throughout July, they’ll feature 86 creators, each making available a new comic work for purchase as a PDF. That’s 86 incredible talents making 86 brand-new books. The quality of them is amazing. I guarantee you’ll find a new and exciting talent whose work you’re going to love in here.
They’ve certainly come a long way from the establishing of Laydeez Do Comics, launched in 2009 by Dr. Nicola Streeten and Sarah Lightman ‘to champion comics work based on life narrative and the drama of the everyday.’ Since then, they’ve changed their name to LDComics, hosted their annual festival from 2018-2020 in conjunction with a prize for graphic novels in progress, set up mentoring programs and residencies, delivered an international British Council project and delivered workshops and talks. And they still host their monthly events highlighting all that’s good in comics.
As I keep saying to anyone who’ll listen, the quality of work being produced at the grassroots level here in the UK is incredible. More and more voices are making comics, meaning a more vibrant, diverse, and bloody briliant comics scene for all. And the LDComics digital fair is a perfect example of this.
