Skybound Announces ‘Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White’ Specials By James Tynion IV And Martin Simmonds’
by Olly MacNamee
Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, have announced they will be reissuing its Universal Monsters: Dracula series as two black-and-white specials by The Department of Truth co-creators, writer James Tynion IV and artist Martin Simmonds.

“The first installment plunges readers into the eerie world of Dr. John Seward’s asylum, where a new patient arrives whispering about a demon who has taken residence next door. As Dr. Seward struggles to apply logic to the madness, his surrogate daughter Lucy begins to fall under the dark influence of the twisted Count Dracula!”
Of course, the angle for this black and white repackaging is to mimic the silver age of cinema in which Dracula was originally released by Universal Studios in black-and-white. Not just another cash grab, of course. Something I would be more than willing to believe if it wasn’t for the fact they are taking fully painted pages and washing the colour out. These aren’t your usual pen and ink pages that would work well in black-and-white, like many Artist’s Editions out there. But this … I’m not sure.
But, there will be a market for it. So for those fans, you’ll need to know that Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White Special #1 is out on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 and Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White Special #2, is out on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025.
