‘Pumyra’ Gets Her Own ‘ThunderCats’ Spotlight From Ed Brisson And Dynamite

by Erik Amaya

Pumyra will soon be loose in comic shops in her own spotlight comic.

Since her debut in the original ThunderCats animated series’s second season, Pumyra has always fascinated fans of the ‘Cats, but she will finally star in her comic, as revealed by Dynamite on Tuesday. ThunderCats: Pumyra from writer Ed Brisson and artist Alice Leclert is a 28-page one-shot further detailing the history of the young Thunderian who also featured in the Brisson-penned ThunderCats Lost.

Years before she was Lost, a war against the Mu’tants cost a young Pumyra her parents’ lives. She is taken in by Jaga, the Lord of the ThunderCats, who sees untapped potential in her. But her anger and obsession with vengeance continue to be a stumbling block even as “Pumyra grows and trains in the art of healing, discovering the power of compassion and the ability to transform pain into hope.”

In a statement, Brisson said, “Charting Pumyra’s path from healer to leader in ThunderCats: Lost has been an absolute joy … Having the chance to delve into her past — something that hasn’t been done in her 40-year history — to show readers just how resilient this character is, is something I’m very excited about. This is one of the most personal stories I’ve written for ThunderCats.”

Supporting the special will be covers from Clayton Henry, Sebastian Piriz, Robert Quinn, and Will Robson.

ThunderCats: Pumyra is scheduled for release this October.
