SDCC 2025: Marvel Could Be In The Hunt For A New Sorcerer Supreme

by Gary Catig

There are bound to be some significant changes in the Marvel Universe in the upcoming months. We already heard during San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) how the cosmic side is branching out from Imperial into several ongoing series. It appears that the mystic realm will experience a seismic shift as well.

*Spoilers Ahead*

Those reading One World Under Doom will know that Doctor Doom is the current Sorcerer Supreme. During the Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing panel at SDCC 2025, Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski showed a slide with the caption “The Sorcerer Supreme has fallen.” It’s a lasting image with the corpses and skeletons of various characters surrounding Doom. We’ll have to wait until the final issue comes out to learn what happens, but it does seem the Marvel Universe will need to select a successor.

Cebulski followed that up with another slide indicating “Long Live the Sorcerer Supreme” accompanied with a shot of different characters willing to pick up the responsibility. It’s an intriguing image with heroes you would expect to be in the running such as the Scarlet Witch and Magik. However, there are some other you would not expect. Storm, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Gambit aren’t the first names to come up with regard to magic and the mystic arts.

We can only imagine that this is only a sampling of heroes and villains positioning themselves to be the next Sorcerer Supreme. Whoever it may be, the process will begin in December 2025.
