2000 AD Announces Its Latest Apex Edition: ‘Judge Dredd By Carlos Ezquerra’ — A Masterpiece From A Master
by Richard Bruton
The 2000 AD Apex Editions are huge slabs of things, archival quality original artwork presented in suitably massive format. And the latest – well, it’s one of the artists who made 2000 AD what it is, the genius that was Carlos Ezquerra.

Ezquerra co-created Judge Dredd and Johnny Alpha, and his body of work truly is one of the finest there is. Always inventive, always visually so great. His untimely passing in 2018 took him away from us, but his art lives on. And this Apex Edition brings us just a little of what made the man’s work so incredible.
Ezquerra drew the ultimate Dredd right from the start, co-creating the character with John Wagner back in 1977 and continued to chronicle the law man of the future’s adventures, defining just what and who Dredd could be.

And in November, 2000 AD will publish their Apex Edition of Judge Dredd by Carlos Ezquerra, containing original art scans of Ezquerra’s Dredd work, published at original art size. There’s seven complete colour stories – ‘Behold the Beast’, ‘The Big Itch’, ‘It’s Happening on Line 9’, ‘The Other Slab Tynan’, ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Tarantula’, ‘John Brown’s Body’ from the early 1980s Judge Dredd annuals, one of his most creative times. Plus, a hell of a lot of classic pages and cover art from Dredd, as well as a little bit of Strontium Dog just to round things out.
The Judge Dredd by Carlos Ezquerra: Apex Edition will be released in 2025 both as a Standard Edition available from comic book stores via Diamond Distribution and the 2000 AD webshop; and as a webshop-exclusive edition with special slipcase.
