Greetingsssss: ‘Judge Death Mega-Special’ Celebrates 45 Years Of The Undead Alien Superfiend – Out October
by Richard Bruton
A brand-new collection of 48 pages of all things Judge Death and his fellow undead alien superfiends, the Dark Judges, the Judge Death Mega-Special features all the Halloween horrorsssss you could want… all of it coming under a brand-new Judge Death cover by his co-creator, Brian Bolland.

Yep, it’s time to get back into the world of Judges Death, Fire, Mortis, and Fear, collectively the Dark Judges, guaranteed to bring terror and termination to all who look upon them. Well, sort of.
Created 45 years ago by John Wagner and Bolland, Death and pals came from their own alternate world, one they’d already ravaged, one where the crime was life and the sentence was death. So, it was off to Mega-City One of this world and the first of many moments where they came off worse to Anderson and Dredd, and became a quartet of the most terrifying and iconic Dredd villains.

Now, just in time for spooky season, 2000 AD wishes a happy 45th to Judge Death and the Dark Judges with this Mega-Special, 48 pages of new tales of the Dark Judges, publishing on 22nd October 2025.
Like the 2000 AD presser said, brilliantly:
An all-new 48 page special which will get your heart racing… just in time for Death to gleefully crush it in his skeletal hands!
Under the Bolland cover, there’s five tales about the four Dark Judges, each one highlighting one of the quartet of nightmares, all doing the things they do oh so well.
You’ll see Kek-W and Dave Taylor return to Deadworld to see the Judge Death of that world playing a game of chess with the last surviving human. Judge Mortis’s tale sees Antony Johnston and Lee Carter combine, whilst Judge Fire burns thanks to the super hot team (yes, I went there) of Alex de Campi and Mark Sexton, and then Alec Worley and Leigh Gallagher give us a story of Judge Fear. Finally, award-winning novelist Lauren Beukes makes her return to the world of 2000 AD to give us a Judge Death tale with art by the great Tazio Bettin.
So, 45 years of terror to celebrate, 45 years of death and the gang causing mayhem and all manner of horrors, albeit often with a wry smile on the parts of the writers involved. A classic character, a classic set of villains, and now a Mega-Special to celebrate the quartet of superfiends as they come up against Dredd, Judge Giant, and, inevitably, Judge Anderson.
The Judge Death Mega-Special 2025 is out on 22nd October from 2000 AD in the UK. And hopefully, available in the Americas on 25 November.
