Action RPG Franchise ‘Gujian’ Reborn As ‘Swords Of Legends’
by Sage Ashford
Developer Aurogon Shanghai has revealed the fourth installment in their long-running Gujian franchise. Although the franchise has been around since 2010, it’s been reborn in the West now as Swords of Legends. Still, it remains a single-player action RPG centered around Chinese literature and folklore. This time: players take on the role of an Underworld Enforcer, guiding the departed to the other side.
Unlike many of the action RPGs released lately, Swords of Legends isn’t aiming to be a Souls-like, nor is it intended to be particularly punishing, according to a recently released FAQ. Instead, it’s being described as a wide linear experience where players can enjoy the game at their own pace. Like previous entries in the Gujian franchise, it is completely standalone, making it easy for anyone who wants to get into the series.
Seeing the success of game franchises like Black Myth and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, perhaps Swords of Legends can also capture some of the attention of the West with this rebrand. That is, if it manages to come out early enough to capitalize off all the attention. For now, Swords of Legends has no release date, but is scheduled to release on PC and consoles.
