Mattel And Limited Run Games “Have The Power” To Make A New ‘He-Man’ Game

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

Check this out…

How cool was that?! Well, I for one am very excited we are getting a side-scrolling beat-em-up based on one of my all-time favorite childhood cartoons, He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe!

Mattel has teamed up with Limited Run Games to launch He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, a retro-inspired 2D brawler that will land on console and PC. This all-new original title is set to launch in 2026, with physical pre-orders and digital release also coming early 2026.

This game is clearly inspired by the iconic cartoon I know and love. And much like the recent, radical 2022 side-scroll brawler, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, which let me play as Usagi Yojimbo for hours on end as I smashed buttons and slashed foot-clan members, this new He-Man game is set to let us take control of the Masters Of The Universe including ( but hopefully not limited to) He-Man, Teela, and Man-At-Arms.

There are over 12 levels to start and character-specific moves, giving me the impression we will get some DLC that will let us add more characters to our roster and more levels to explore. Wishful thinking, I know, but the joy I will feel being able to play as Fisto, Mekaneck, Moss Man, Rio Blast, freaking Roboto, Stratos, Sky-Klone, Clamp Champ, Buzz-Off, or any of the Rock Lords would be unparalleled in video games that live in the pick-up-and-play space.

Battle Cat is also somehow working his way into the game, so whatever that looks like, I’m here for it!

Dragon Pearl of Destruction is one of the exciting ways we’re bringing Mattel’s brands to life through digital games,” said Erika Winterholler, Head of Business Development, Digital Games at Mattel. “It’s a love letter to those who grew up with He-Man, combining nostalgic visuals with fast-paced, modern gameplay. Our goal is to honor the franchise’s legacy while introducing it to a new generation of players. The team at Limited Run Games shares that passion, and we hope the game connects with both lifelong fans and newcomers alike.”

Dragon Pearl of Destruction is the Masters of the Universe arcade game I yearned for as a child,” said Josh Fairhurst, CEO and Executive Producer at Limited Run Games. “I am excited and honored to be playing a small part in making it a reality.”

I’m super stoked for this one and hope, even if it’s a bunch of micro transactions or DLCs, that this is the kind of game we get a ton of additions to and can keep playing over and over with new Masters Of The Universe and new levels to explore!

Until next time, I have the power!
