Review: ‘The Tin Can Society’ #8 Pushes Forward

The plot by writer/co-plotter Peter Warren and co-plotter Rick Remender remains interesting. However, it feels like certain story beats are rushing along. This results in the issue numbering feeling like it needs an extension in order to give depth to a few narrative details. Unfortunately, this is the penultimate issue so there is no real point to adding another issue at this figurative eleventh hour. Also the action could see better scripting since it is at times unclear who is doing what. Fortunately, the way Warren writes the characters remains consistent and believable.

Artist Francesco Mobili and colorist Chris Chuckry are responsible for the interior visuals along with creating cover A. Though Mobili seems to overdo the proportions of certain elements it most often turns out to be a trick of the eyes. This trick occurs most jarringly within the opening pages. Despite this effect happening Mobili’s art keeps being exceptional and confident. Meanwhile the color palettes Chuckry applies make the skin pigmentations and other aspects of the visuals have realistic feels. Not to mention that Chuckry’s choices help enhance and highlight the amount of depth Mobili creates. In other words nearly every part of the interiors displays high quality.

When it comes to the design of cover A it is debatable whether it is high in quality or high to medium since there are so many elements. In the personal and professional opinion of this reviewer cover A’s design falls into the latter category.

Letterer Jackie Marzan does a great job with sizing and placing the text elements. However, those who wish for comics to have less obvious font may not like this issue because of how the lettering pops.

Cover B is the creation of artist John Pearson. While it features great art and colors the design is a bit confusing if one ponders whether photoshop is seeing use in its creation.
