RGG Studios Announces ‘Yakuza Kiwami 3’ And More At Their Latest Summit

by Sage Ashford

During the recent RGG Summit just ahead of the Tokyo Game Show, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios discussed their latest major project: Yakuza Kiwami 3. Rebuilt in RGG Studios’ Dragon Engine, Yakuza Kiwami 3 takes fans back to Kiryu’s adventures in Okinawa, but with new cutscenes, side stories, mini-games, and even a change of outcomes to certain story moments.

Along with this, they also announced an entirely new story following Yoshitaka Mine entitled Dark Ties, allowing players to understand him better by placing him in the lead role. Mine is replaced at his startup company as the story features his journey into the world of the yakuza.

Surprisingly, rather than releasing these games separately, both are being launched together on February 12th, 2026 for PlayStation, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.

The later RGG Direct also gave fans a deeper look into the combat and mini-games available in both stories. Hope fans are ready to lead a biker gang!

Fans can also expect Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut to come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Steam on December 8th. The prequel that helped Yakuza become a household name in the West, the Director’s Cut adds new content, including additional backstories and cutscenes. They’ll also be adding a multiplayer mode in the form of a Red Light Raid, letting players work together and pick from 60 different characters to battle against enemy hordes.

Unfortunately, fans who already own the game won’t have any form of upgrade path, meaning SEGA is expecting them to just buy the game again. There’s also no way to carry over save data, meaning anyone half-way through the game will have to start over completely.

Those expecting to see Stranger Than Heaven or Virtua Fighter 6 are a bit out of luck, though. RGG Studios offered a behind the scenes look at Stranger Than Heaven, but that was mostly just glimpses of the studio actually developing the game along with an extended version of the song from the Summer Game Fest trailer. It feels like that game is much further out than people thought or RGG is about to have a monster year where they release three games at once.

Virtua Fighter devotees were left in the cold as the game was completely absent. Still, it feels likely we see that game again soon. Perhaps during Sony’s State of Play or during Tokyo Game Show later in the week?
