Sony’s Latest State Of Play Gives A Glimpse Into PlayStation For 2026

As ever, from the moment Sony announced a new State of Play, PlayStation fans everywhere began speculating on what could be at the show. Over 42 minutes long, they got to see over a dozen titles coming soon to the console. Here are just a few of the highlights of the biggest games:

They opened with Saros, the latest project from Housemarque, previously known for their work on Returnal. A stunningly beautiful game, it builds on the fast-paced gameplay and unsettling alien worlds of Returnal with a protagonist trying to escape an endlessly shape-shifting world.

Despite going back to rogue-like elements, though, Saros introduces a permanent progression system, along with things like Second Chance, allowing players to return to life after their first death.  They also confirmed the title’s release date: March 20th, 2026.

Next up was Zero Parades from ZA/UM, best known for their work on Disco Elysium. Described as an “espionage RPG”, the game places the player in the role of operant Hershel Wilk, who might succeed at her goals — but often at the cost of the lives of her allies.

ZA/UM has been caught up in quite a bit of drama over the last few years, so Zero Parades might have a bit of trouble garnering the same positive attention as their last game. Especially when it looks so similar to Disco Elysium on the surface.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was confirmed for PS5, debuting December 8th, along with a PSVR2 version in 2026. That this is happening with such little fanfare, yet will almost assuredly be another major title for both companies is a sign of just how much the industry has changed.

Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 6 made an appearance, giving gamers their first look at the campaign. Taking place in 2027, it follows Dagger 13, a group of US Marines battling against the private military corporation Pax Armata. It feels weird seeing Battlefield featured so prominently at a PlayStation show, but that’s what happens when Call of Duty is developed by Xbox. Still, Battlefield 6 releases on October 10th.

A fun surprise: Deus Ex Remastered, announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and Steam, is coming out February 5th, 2026. The game’s been given a surprisingly solid visual makeover, including better lighting, completely re-done textures, and tons of quality of life improvements to make it worthwhile for fans to return to the series.

Koei-Tecmo is back with the Souls-like action-RPG NiOh 3, and now it has a release date. The title comes to both PS5 and Steam on February 6th. In this newest addition to the series, players will experience multiple eras of history assuming the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo as they battle against yokai to protect Japan and become the next Shogun.

As ever, NiOh certainly looks gorgeous, but Koei-Tecmo tends to create B-level Souls-likes. Can they finally break that streak with this game?

Anyone who tired of the modern Dynasty Warriors games can look forward to getting a taste of the past with Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered. On top of drastically improved graphics, content from the Xtreme Legends expansion has been added, offering new stories, more customization, new weapons and more.

Musou games have been experiencing a renaissance lately, so it feels only right to return to the franchise that popularized the genre. And while normally the complaint around Musou games is their similarity, the most recent Dynasty Warriors are so different from the earlier efforts that this will feel like a new experience.

Bandai-Namco made an appearance with an eye-popping new trailer for Code Vein 2, showing off the game’s new setting and combat. Players take on the role of a Revenant Hunter, battling against the threat of other Revenants and the Luna Rapacis, who are driving them mad.

Like the last game, players will be able to power up by working with Partner allies from different eras, who also help develop the game’s narrative. In a change from the previous installment, though, players will rely on the blood they drain from enemies to unlock new abilities and weapons. Code Vein II launches January 30th, 2026.

It’s unlikely anyone could’ve predicted the next project from Shueisha Games. Chronoscript: The Endless End is an exploration-based action-adventure in which players become an editor trapped within a never-ending manuscript.

Though the trailer was just barely over a minute, Chronoscript might be one of the coolest games at the show. While Metroidvania-style games have become common, none of them look anything like this. Currently, Chronoscript‘s release is scheduled for 2026.

After four years, open-world RPG Crimson Desert finally gets a story trailer and a release date. Players get to take on Kliff, the leader of a group known as the Greymanes, as he journeys across Pywel to find his allies after they were broken apart by the Black Bears.

Crimson Desert seems like it’ll be either one of the best games of 2026 or a complete mess. From the gameplay previews, it plays well, but might have overly complex controls. It’s also up in the air that a game with this many particle effects has a chance at running well on most PCs, let alone consoles. Nonetheless, this is certainly one of my most anticipated games, so it’s nice to learn it’s releasing March 19th, 2026 for PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series.

It feels like it’s been forever since Marvel’s Wolverine was announced back in 2021, but we’re finally at the point where there’s a gameplay trailer. If anyone had concerns Insomniac wouldn’t be willing to do Wolverine’s visceral combat, this trailer puts an end to all that. The game looks fast, brutal, and completely addicting. There’s no actual release date for this one, but is planned for release in the fall of 2026.

All-in-all, this State of Play was light on surprises, but heavy on games coming out very soon. While there are still plenty of questions remaining about PlayStation’s upcoming slate of games, this show offered more than enough to whet players appetites, particularly while knowing we’re likely 3-4 months away from the next showcase.
