MagicCon: Atlanta 2025 — ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Is Boldly Going Where No One Has Gone Before

I played a Star Trek card game when I was a kid. That was thanks to a friend who was okay with sharing their decks and cards with me. It was totally fine, but it never hit the way Magic: The Gathering did.
So when news came out of MagicCon: Atlanta that we were getting a Star Trek tribute set of MTG releasing in November 2026 to honor the 60th anniversary of the franchise, I nearly fell out of my chair.
I rushed to Messenger to let my friend Ken know. He had already posted about being flooded with mentions of the set coming, a fact that frankly made my day when I saw it. We bantered a bit, and I can tell you, for no other reason than it will forever make me think of my friend, I’m stoked to see what this set will bring.
This set celebrates six decades of storytelling across television and film and is dedicated to capturing the spirit of exploration, discovery, and imagination that has inspired fans for generations.
The set will take us from the pioneering adventures of the original series to the bold new frontiers introduced in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and beyond!
Also, this is Gowron, son of M’Rel, portrayed by the wildly talented Robert O’Reilly. Gowron is one of the most memorable characters in all of Star Trek, in my opinion. It’s in no part due to the way he was able to emote with his eyes and bring a real sense of unhinged joy and ferocity to a character that was half kindly dad and half space barbarian. A Gowron card is going to “bang out of control,” even if it’s not a unique character card. I want it, and this is purely speculation based on my own wants. If I get some alt art cards with Klingon for the text, I’m going to be beyond happy with things.
Fans of Star Trek and MTG are going to have to wait a bit, but hopefully, if the world does not fall apart between now and then, we are going to be in for some rad new cards at the table.
