The power of Ben 10 cannot be denied.
Just ahead of New York Comic Con, Dynamite announced Tuesday that it has secured the rights to Ben 10 from Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. And to celebrate this new age of Ben 10 comics, it has reunited its creators — the original Man of Action team consisting of Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle — as its writing staff. Casey will lead spearhead the series with Robert Carey supplying the art. Subsequent scripts will be provided by the other MOA members in various combinations.
While the original animated series centered on the titular character growing up and learning to be a hero, the comic will be a “more straightforward, action-oriented approach” with the promise of including “the surreal, across drama, comedy, and tragedy.” The first issue will feature a new origin for the character as Ben Tennyson discovers the mysterious Omnitrix with a greater sense of how this event shapes the world. Future stories will both recontextualize key moments from the animation while others will expand and add to the Ben 10 mythology. But the plan is to both honor what came before while giving Ben the chance to appeal to a new base of readers.
“Ben 10 is obviously very close to our hearts, and has been for the last twenty years,” Casey said in a statement. “So we’re psyched to finally present a vision of Ben and his mythology in the manner and format that we’ve always wanted to see. This is basically a straight-up superhero comic that’s going to compete with every major series out there. This is “Ultimate” or “Absolute” Ben 10. We guarantee, this is the best that Ben 10 has ever been.”
More news about the Ben 10 comic will follow soon.
