An Ultimate End: Rounding Up Marvel Comics’ NYCC 2025 News (Part One)

Another year of New York Comic Con has come and gone. It’s a big year for announcements, and with it all over it’s time to take a look at Marvel Comics’ biggest announcements from the convention.
The Jonathan Hickman and Wil Moss led Ultimate Marvel Universe has been one of the creative high points at Marvel Comics for the last 2 years. Not only are the titles some of the best selling from the publisher, but they’re widely acknowledged as some of the creative high points of Marvel storytelling for some time.
So naturally it’s time to bring it all to an end in April 2026.
All sarcasm aside, it’s unclear exactly what the “end” of the publishing line means exactly. Outside of — at a minimum — ending this phase of storytelling, the creators, led by Hickman and Ultimates and Ultimate Endgame writer Deniz Camp, are keeping pretty mum. It does sound like the end, but that could easily be PR spin to build up excitement for these last few months of stories.
Could this be a genuine end to one of the more interesting and exciting Marvel epics of the last twenty years? Sure, and while that’s disappointing, there’s no denying that it’s a breath of fresh air to see this version of Ultimate Marvel as a finite story. But it might just be the end of phase 1, and a relaunch is imminent.
Regardless, the Ultimate Universe — at least as we know it — is ending in April, with each of the individual Ultimate series wrapping up at issue #24 (except Ultimate Wolverine which ends at April’s #16). From there, who knows?
