2025 Gift Guide For Gamers: ‘HeroClix’

Welcome to the table,

It’s one of my favorite times of the year! Those brilliant dark days of winter when the world gets a little quieter, the nights get a little longer, and I can lurk about my library like some holiday lich remembering all the fun TTRPG things I’m thankful have brought me comfort and joy over the dark days of this past year.

This is also an opportunity for me to call out some of the coolest stuff I have found for you, my dear readers, so you can possibly add these offerings to your gift lists, allowing you to serve as the true lords of yule in raw defiance of the crimson-clad elven warlord and his minions, whom I hate with a burning passion!

There are some stellar sets out there right now from my pals at HeroClix, some I have seen firsthand, some I have only seen in renders, but sets, 400-point boxes, and even individual Clix that are fantastic for both players and fans.

Marvel HeroClix Iconix: First Appearance X-Men

First up, I need to call out the Iconix: First Appearance X-Men box set. This set is a rad collection of Clix that includes Cyclopse, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, Angel, and Magento from their 1963 X-Men #1 cover fight. The figures make great play pieces, really rad display minis outside of the box, and even inside the box, the box itself is a really cool display piece with some seriously eye-catching shelf appeal.

If you have an X-Men fan in your life, then this is a fun little set for them, even if they have not yet come to the table.

Marvel HeroClix: X-Men ’97 Booster Brick

Sculpted after the smash hit series, X-Men ’97, the X-Men ’97 Booster Bricks are packed full of some of my favorite designs in superhero comics. Forge, Storm, Nightcrawler, even Cyclopse all look so screen acurate from the cartoon I grew up loving and the revival I’ve watched at least ten times over the last year.

Because this is an X-Men set, you are going to get a ton of charicters in their yellow and blue outfits, but there are also a fair amount of rare and chase figures along with epic villians includion Bastion and Magneto, and some other nostalgic suprises and solid cards to find as you break open your boxes. All in all this has been one of the most impressive Marvel sets I have seen in a second and will speak to long time fans and those new to the table.

DC HeroClix: Lantern Legacy Booster Brick

Switching gears to an epic set that is inspired by the DC Comics Green Lanter books, the HeroClix: Green Lantern Legacy Booster Brick is packed with a ton of really fun Clix that harken to the ring slingers who guard or harrow the cosmic highways. As someone who has a collection of each of the Lantern Color Rings, as well as a Green Lantern ring inspired by Hal Jordans from the 90’s on my keychain that has been there for over 20 years, I can tell you that this is the kind of set that always makes me happy that HeroClix are still being made. While I don’t really have a place to play this is the kind of set I can collect because each Clix reminds me of a comic I read as it was hitting the shelf. Yellow fear ring Batman, Alan Scott with his cool “Green Knight” Kingdom Come armor, the classic Jay Garrick Flash with the mercury helm and speed force trailing behind him, and even obscure but delightful favorites like Animal Man, Hour Man, and Dr. Mid-Nite show up in this set.

WizKids also puts the Hero-Glo effects in this set giving some of these Clix a little extra spice in the best possible way.

DC Comics HeroClix: Static Shock

As a kid who grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, X-Men, and Static Shock, this Clix always makes me smile. While they are harder to come by in the wild you can find a small amount of them in the Ding & Dent section over at the WizKids shop right now and if you are a fan like me, or know someone who really likes Static, this is the kind of thing you can roll the dice on and find for that person in your life who like to have cool little icons of remembrance on their shelf. Marvel HeroClix: X-Men – Hellfire Gala Premium Collection 2

Before we wrap up this instalment of the Gift Guide for Gamers 2025, let’s talk about the Hellfire Gala Premium Collection 2 for a second. I have not seen either of these sets in person, but the Laura Kinney Wolverine render and the Emma Frost Clix render are spectacular. I’m also a fan of how Gambit, Mr. Sinister, and Havok turned out. As someone who has a friend who created a piece of the Hellfire Gala, I have been a fan of the fancy outfits all these iconic characters are wearing and the second set has icons like Captain America, Falcon, Doctor Doom, and Iceman in their gala best. Not only fun for table play, but also really fun for those who dig collectables of characters in non traditional costumes.
