FCBD 2026: Skybound Tease Details For This Year’s ‘Energon Universe Special 2026’

Skybound, Image Comics and toy company Hasbro have shared plans for this year’s Free Comic Book Day (Saturday, May 2nd) Energon Universe offering. Once again, it seems like a hot comic not to be missed, given that it has a redacted cover.
This year’s free comic, Energon Universe Special 2026 for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026: “a perfect jumping-in point for new readers and a can’t-miss story for longtime fans”. Who will they be revealing next, I wonder? As will all the Transformers and G.I. Joe readers out there, too. Thereby creating the appropriate hype for this annual event and, no doubt, queues around the block for some stores. Especially as it features four all-new stories by Energon Universe alumni, Robert Kirkman, Joshua Williamson, and more scripting the stories, with Jason Howard, Conor Hughes and others providing art.
“Free Comic Book Day is such an exciting holiday every year,” opines Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. “To have four exciting stories by some of the best creators in the business is a dream come true!”
While this is merely a teaser with little details other than the usual hype around this being a “must-have” comic, it’s still a great way to get readers interested, which can only be a good thing for Skybound/Image/Hasbro, but also for comic shops and other publishers. I mean, who’s going to go to their local comic book store for just one free comic, right?
