Trailer Watch: Hugh Jackman Stars In ‘The Death Of Robin Hood’

by Tito W. James

Here at Comicon, we’re fans of darker, deconstructionist interpretations of Robin Hood, like Nottingham by David Hazan and Shane Connery Volk. That’s why The Death of Robin Hood caught my attention. The film stars Hugh Jackman as an aged brigand who’s forced back into his violent ways as the murderous outlaw Robin Hood.

Here’s the synopsis: “Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.

The film makes great use of its stripped-down premise and could deliver an action drama akin to The Northman. It remains to be seen if audiences will connect with a radical take on a folk hero in which much of his heroism is removed.
