Quick Review — ‘Demon’s Mirror: The Snow Queen’

Last year I read the physical edition of A Better Place by Harry Bogosian, and was really impressed by the charming characters, unpredictable plot, and versatile art style. Bogosian is a fresh talent who more readers should be aware of. I was eager to read more of his comics.
Demon’s Mirror is Bogosian’s sci-fi/fantasy webcomic inspired by The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, where the demonic forces take center stage. The writer/artist excels with character and monster designs that range from humorous to creepy. The plot has the framework of a classic fantasy adventure: Gerda goes on a quest to save her friend Kay from the mysterious Snow Queen, and collects a fellowship of unlikely allies along the way.
This tale was Bogosian’s first foray into fully writing and drawing a webcomic — as such it feels he was still trying to find his voice. I also noticed that pages 317-320 were printed twice in my physical copy of the book. However, as a three hundred-plus page webcomic, Demon’s Mirror is a mighty accomplishment. The story continues with Angel’s Orchard, and even from the first few pages you can see an increase in confidence and expertise. Bogosian is a talent well worth checking out and I look forward to reading more stories from him.
