Wolverine Confronts Her Deadly Legacy In ‘Generation X-23’

Next months, Laura and Gabby Kinney re-team as their legacy rears its ugly head. It’ll take two Wolverines to mentor Generation X-23.
The new series from Jody Houser and Jacobo Camagni will continue the long tradition of Marvel mutants bringing up the next generation. The big twist this time is that Logan’s daughters will be mentoring a group of kids brought up to be weapons, just like them.
In an interview with Marvel.com Houser said, “Laura has done a lot of work coming to terms with how she was raised versus the hero she’s chosen to be, and she’s adjusted to being an older sister figure to Gabby. Generation X-23 puts her in a position to potentially take on a role that we’ve seen Logan in many times over the years — mentor and teacher. But the fact that it is tied closely to her past complicates things.”
This series is a very fun twist on X-Men’s long tradition of the new kid trope (literally dating back to the first ever issue of X-Men). Though it worries me a little to see Laura needing to confront her trauma once again, Houser is the sort of writer that I can see looking forward more than looking back. Add in more Laura/Gabby team-ups and I’m excited to see what’s to come.
