The Countdown To ‘Vampirella’ #700 Continues With A “New Season” And A New #1 This April

by Erik Amaya

The 700th issue of Vampirella — counting from the original 1970s magazine — is just a year away. And the next chapter in that journey begins this April with a new Vampirella #1 from writer Christopher Priest and artist Davis Goetten.

Intended as both a jumping on chapter for new readers and the beginning of a new season in Priest’s ongoing story, the debut issue sees Draculina — Vampi’s sister — still struggling from the loss of  her Vampiri powers and the baby she “wrested away from Vampirella.” Seemingly shackled with humanity, her thirst for blood returns. And as Dynamite puts it, “confronted with the prospect of once again being consumed by the evil appetites that had controlled her for centuries, she sets out on a desperate quest to break the patterns of her past and find new answers — or die trying! And how does Vampirella herself factor into these next chapters?”

The issue also doubles as #688 in the line going back to the original Warren Publishing era.

Supporting the new #1 are covers from Lucio Parrillo, Derrick Chew, Joseph Michael Linsner, Elias Chatzoudis, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon. Additionally, premium mystery blind bags containing three randomly selected limited edition variants of the issue will be available.

Vampirella #1 hits comic shops this April.
