James III And Agnese Eterno Ride To Agrabah For Dynamite’s ‘Aladdin’

Dynamite is taking flight for Agrabah in their upcoming Aladdin series — the latest in their partnership with Disney.

As the company announced Tuesday, the series will be shepherded by writer James III and artist Agnese Eterno. Picking up after the conclusion of the original animated film, Aladdin seemingly has it all: the love of Jasmine, Abu and the magic carpet at his side, and the Genie is free. Of course, trouble is never far from the former thief, and as Dynamite puts it, “he’ll need the help of everyone he loves to save himself and the entire city of Agrabah.”

“Writing Aladdin is an opportunity I don’t take lightly,” James III said in a statement. “Not to be old, but the Aladdin VHS was one of the few tapes we owned growing up and we wore it out! I’d run around the house imitating Genie and Iago (for which I later won the 3rd grade talent show, thank you very much!) And my light-up Jafar staff was a prized possession. We’re doing our best to capture the flare of the original while telling new stories for today’s audience.”

Supporting the debut issue are covers from Eterno, J. Scott Campbell, Nicoletta Baldari, and Natacha Bustos. Additionally, issue #1 will be available as a Blank Authentix sketch-ready cover for aspiring artists or convention-goers with a particular artist in mind. There will also be a bling bag option, offering “a slick design of the Genie’s lamp, and contains three limited editions of the issue selected randomly from a range of [exclusive] covers.”
