Pokémon Day 2026 Brought So Much To The Table

Welcome to the table,

Pokémon day was last Friday, and as you can imagine, I’m excited! The live stream was hosted by the Pokémon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, and was packed full of all sorts of new updates on products and games from the world of Pokémon.

The biggest news for me is the first look at Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, the two new titles in the core Pokémon RPG series, coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2.

This game looks absolutely amazing. We have what appears to be an open-world island-type setting with a pair of special Pikachu who both have very vacation looks.

We also got a look at the new starters for this generation. I am going to dive more into these guys and the core game itself in another feature. For now, these adorable little Pokémon are Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will drop exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

Pokémon Champions, a cross-platform Pokémon battle game,  is set to launch on Nintendo Switch in April 2026. Right now, trainers who download the game early will receive a Dragonite in their in-game mailbox, so that is pretty rad. There will also be a special campaign where players can obtain Mega Stones for Pokémon that Mega Evolve in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Pokémon Champions is the battle part of the game, and I think it is going to bring a very cool competitive element to an already competitive landscape, and will serve those players who want to battle without playing a story-based RPG.

The Pokémon TCG also got some love with the cool trailer above that not only showed off some of the iconic cards from the past 30 years, but also teased a bit of what is to come with a look at Mew and Mewtwo. This for sure has got my attention, and I will report back as soon as I have some more news on the TCG front.

We got our best look yet at Pokopia, the upcoming town-building, Animal Crossing-esque game. I keep Rotom on my team so having the new Dj. Rotom, a stereo version of the ghost that takes over machines, is rad as heck and a really cool way to bring music to your growing village.

There was also a special Greedent shown, who will teach your avatar Ditto how to cook and serve dishes to your various Pokémon, and the scope of the village size is way bigger than I once realized. This is going to be one heck of a game for sure.

Another wild but welcomed announcement was the Game Boy Jukebox. It’s this really cool retro grey Game Boy looking device that you can pop in various cartridges to play songs and sound effects from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

I really enjoy the retro feel of this one. It’s like “Hip-clips” for Gen Alpha, and I’m here for it.

The Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen versions from 2004 came out over 20 years ago for the Game Boy Advance. Now we are getting them rereleased for DLC on the Switch and Switch 2.

This is essentially letting us play the original Pokémon games on our current console, and the Pokémon Company has already said we should see support for Pokémon Home and Champions. This is going to be huge because it means we can play them and transfer our Pokémon all the way from older Gen games to the newer games as they launch.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is a game I play multiple times a day. They are currently offering limited-time missions and special rewards for Pokémon Day, and so far, I have pulled some really rad cards.

Pokémon: Z-A‘s DLC Mega Dimensions has a new Mega Pokémon added to its roster. We now have a Mega-Evolution Garchomp Z. Carchomp is a fan favorite, and this new addition comes from Mystery Gift. It will have its own small questline and new Mega Stone ready for players today!
