‘Vampirella Archives’ Vol. 6 Details Revealed

by Erik Amaya

Dynamite’s Vampirella Archives series continues apace with June’s volume #6.

The company announced Thursday details of the sixth edition in its Vampirella reprint program. The Archives collect the original Warren Publishing era of the character in chronological order on a bi-monthly schedule. Vol. 6, for example, features issues #36-42 and represents stories published from Fall 1974 through to Spring 1975. Of course, as the original Vampirella magazine was an anthology series with Vampi initially acting as a horror host, these issues also contain stories from various genres even as the title character becomes more and more important.

In Vol. 6, Jose Gonzalez continues as the key artist of Vampi’s tales, although the work of Leopold Sanchez and Jose Ortiz also takes prominence here. Writer Flaxman Loew ends his run in this collection. Meanwhile, “She Who Waits!” from #37 sees the return of Archie Goodwin. Paired with Gonzalez, the story is presented in full color. Elsewhere in the volume, Pantha stars in her own tale, and Esteban Maroto renders two stories featuring Dracula. Other contributors include the likes of Doug Moench, Martin Pasko, Steve Skeates, Rafael Auraleon, Jose Bea, Fernando Fernandez, Luis Bermejo, and Paul Neary.
