This June, Image Comics is launching its latest ongoing series, announcing M1: Monster Racing League by co-writers Robert Windom and Lily Windom, artist Jae Lee, and colourist June Chung, first announced this morning exclusively at ComicBook.com and will start its engines in June. Also, this is the first time Lee has been an interior artist on an ongoing monthly comic book series since the 1990s.

When 17-year-old Dev moves to Japan, she stumbles into an underground world of illegal street racing, where speed is power and mutation wins championships. This high-octane sci-fi drama, set in a near-future Tokyo, is Fast & Furious by way of KPop Demon Hunters, Arcane, and Akira.”

And, as well as the comic book series, there is an animated adaptation in the works from Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Jeffrey M. Howard.

Windom commented:

I’m excited for readers to see Jae’s amazing art and June’s beautiful colors, which really bring the exciting and mysterious world in series to life … There are lots of unexpected twists and deep lore that we’ll explore, and I can’t wait to take people on this journey!

Lily Windom added:

M1: Monster Racing League is high-stakes monster racing meets K-pop — so much energy, style, and pressure — and the characters are all trying to figure out who they are. I think teens will love it because it’s super fast-paced and exciting but also really real about friendship, competition, and finding where you belong.”

Lee commented:

“Robert and Lily have come up with such an amazing story, it’s inspired me to try something I’ve never done before: Manga. I’m cutting loose with the art and having a blast. This is an ongoing series and I’m in it for the long haul!”

This project is only the second that the Windoms have written together, the first being the graphic novel Family Time, which Lily co-wrote with her father at just eleven years old.
