Arrow Video’s June Slate Brings The Action With 4K Jackie Chan, ‘Mortal Kombat,’ John Woo, And More

Every month, Arrow Video unleashes a handful of cult favorite and classics on physical media, and this June is all about the action. The upcoming releases take fans on a tour around the world, from Hong Kong action-comedy to Hollywood video game adaptations, with some Japanese horror and Australian oddities thrown in.

First off is a mammoth boxset of Jackie Chan bruisers featuring a wealth of rare titles and alternate versions. Focusing on Chan’s 1990s success in the US, it compiles Drunken Master II, Rumble in the Bronx, Thunderbolt, the fourth Police Story film (released in the US as First Strike), Mr. Nice Guy, and Who Am I? Each film sports a brand new 4K restoration. There are alternative cuts available for several titles, plus new featurettes and commentaries, a 160-page bound book, lobby cards, a reversible poster, and more. There will also be an Arrow Store exclusive version with alternative artwork. Available in the US and UK.

Get over here! For more action, the ’90s Mortal Kombat films are being “kollected” on limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray. The 1995 videogame adaptation was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and stars Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Robin Shou, and Christopher Lambert. It was sequelized two years later with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Restored from original release materials, the two-disc set comes with a booklet, two posters, and extra features TBA. Available in the US and UK.

After releasing 4K versions of The Killer and Hard Boiled, Arrow next turns to John Woo‘s 1990 Vietnam War action-melodrama Bullet in the Head, starring Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Jacky Cheung and Waise Lee. The 3-disc 4K UHD version includes the Hong Kong theatrical cut, an extended festival cut, a double-sided poster, a new interview with Woo, art cards, a collectors’ booklet, and more. Arrow’s version is only available in the UK, but the film can be found in the US as part of Shout Factory’s Hong Kong Cinema Classics collection.But it’s not just action for June. James Garner steps into the shoes of private eye Philip Marlowe in this 1969 neo-noir that boasts an impressive cast including Carroll O’Connor, Rita Moreno, Jackie Coogan, and even a brief appearance by a young Bruce Lee. The limited edition Blu-ray features a brand new restoration from the original 35mm camera negative, a reversible sleeve, a collector’s booklet, and more. Available in the US and UK.
There’s also a bona fide horror classic in Takashi Miike‘s twisted 1999 shocker Audition. This landmark slow burn Japanese horror film is not for the faint of heart, or for anyone who values their feet. The limited edition 4K UHD includes a brand new restoration from the original Super 16mm camera negative supervised by director of photography Hideo Yamamoto, plus audio commentaries, new interviews, and more. Available in the US and UK.
Finally, things get even weirder Down Under with the rediscovered cult thriller Wake in Fright from director Ted Kotcheff (First Blood). Available on limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray, the brutal low-budget drinking drama stars Donald Pleasence and Gary Bond and is being presented in a new 4K restoration with extra features TBA. Available in the US and UK.
