Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Armageddon’ #1 Will Include Exclusive Magic: The Gathering Card

by Tony Thornley

June’s Avengers: Armageddon is promising to be a universe shaping event that will affect the Marvel Universe for years to come. With a new announcement, Marvel is drawing even more eyes to the event limited series.

Coming June 3rd from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz & Frank Alpizar, Avengers: Armageddon sees a new line-up of Avengers — with the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man and more — facing down General Thaddeus Ross as the Red Hulk. Ross is on the warpath to claim Latveria as new United States territory, as well as taking revenge on Victor Von Doom’s homeland. However, there’s another threat waiting nearby for this new team…

The issue promises to be the beginning of something huge for the Marvel Universe, with Ultimate Tony Stark’s Origin Boxes acting as a major player within the story. Marvel is promising that this will shake up the Avengers — and the universe — in a way we haven’t seen since Avengers Disassembled. That story reshaped the Avengers, and the Marvel Universe as a whole, for years, bringing the team to the forefront in a way they never had been. Frankly, without Disassembled, modern pop culture would look very different, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heavily influenced by the stories that came afterwards.

Readers who pick up the debut issue will also receive a free exclusive card from Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming Marvel Superheroes release. The card features art from Ryan Stegman, which will also be a cover to the event miniseries.
