‘Ben 10’ #2 Outsells Issue #1 In Initial Orders

Ben 10 continues to establish its place in comics.

The last week or so, we’ve been covering the story of Ben 10 #1’s sold-out status with Dynamite taking the issue back to the presses for a second printing. On Wednesday, the company revealed the final tally for both printings takes the unit number above 112,000 copies. But remember the initial order number of 82,000 units? Turns out Ben 10 #2 has outperformed even that — reaching 83,000 copies on order. Keep in mind the natural progression of comics is to decrease orders as a series wears on. This is an extremely unusual circumstance.

The series reunites the original Man of Action team — Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle — for what Casey calls a “new approach with a revamped origin story, a straightforward, action-oriented take on Ben Tennyson and his adventures.” Now set in the 2020s, Ben encounters the Omnitrix while on a family vacation. It gives him familiar powers, but this new version of the origin includes an expanded scale and scope of pivotal moments, including “a range of ‘real world” implications with “the military getting peripherally involved and a bona fide alien threat.” Artist Robert Carey joins Casey for this arc with the other Man of Action creators taking point on writing on subsequent tales.

And as of issue #2, it also includes the debut of Cannonbolt into the series.
