Dynamite’s ‘Gargoyles’ Plans Its Next Epic For This Summer

While the summer promises to be a hot one, Gargoyles will keep things cool in New York this summer.

Tuesday morning, Dynamite announced the imminent arrival of a new Gargoyles #1 from writer and creator Greg Weisman, artist Gerardo Gambone, colorist Robby Bevard, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry. After several miniseries and spinoff titles tied to the story Weisman had been telling since coming to Dynamite, the new issue #1 is meant to be both a jumping-on point for new readers and the start of a new “season” for the characters. The original animated program moved in relative real time and the comics maintain that pace. Which, for those keeping count, means the Manhattan Clan has made it to 1997.

And as the new year begins, the clan has a problem. The gargoyle egg they’ve been protecting, nicknamed “Egwardo”, has been stolen by Demona. As the heroes attempt to find her and the egg, they also face “an awakened ancient, all-powerful evil with a vendetta against the entire world.”

In a statement, Weisman said, “”For me, this is a story thirty years in the making. One I’ve been longing to tell … So longtime fans are seriously not going to want to miss this. At the same time, it’s also a great place for new readers who know nothing about Gargoyles to jump aboard. We’re making sure that everything you need to know is right there on the page. Your Gargoyles addiction begins here and now.”
