Review: ‘The Seasons’ #11 Goes Exposition Heavy

Writer Rick Remender delivers a script that seems to be just a big plot twist. Arguably, the twist is too large since it seems to shift the premise. Unfortunately, this reviewer cannot explain this point better without spoiling it in any way. Still, Remender leaves enough room to suggest there may be unreliable narration going on. Whatever the case may be, the script gives a lot of exposition that could be entertaining to various readers. As for character interactions, there are some that feel very real for practically anyone who has ever had an average negative family discourse.

Artist Paul Azaceta creates the interiors along with the main cover. There is plenty of great line work and facial expressions in this issue. However, a few panels feature minimalistic art that looks too simplistic. Nevertheless, these lower quality areas should not ruin the overall reading experience. As for the narrative’s settings, Azaceta mainly draws stone, so there is a lot of that texture. Thus, readers who are way more into the visuals than the text may feel some disappointment since there is not much new to see. Nevertheless, Azaceta still provides a few exciting images via the main cover and a double splash page.

Colorist Matheus Lopes utilizes three differing palettes throughout this issue as, technically, there are three sections to the narrative. Lopes starts with a bright and whimsical range. The next section contains a range that is dreary with some brightness. Finally, there is a dusky range that also includes yellows and oranges.

Letterer Rus Wooton does great at positioning the text and helping the story’s sequencing. Wooton also does a proper job of inserting sound effects into certain panels.

Cover B is the high quality creation of artist Tula Lotay. While it is a very beautiful piece of art, it does spoil a bit of the story.
