‘The Batman: Part II’ Delayed To 2028

Time is never an issue for The Batman.
Originally meant for release in 2026, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced today that The Batman: Part II will now debut on February 18th, 2028. A shorter delay than the previous ones — usually pushing the movie back by a year — but still disappointing as the follow-up to 2022’s The Batman is meant to carry the story forward by just a handful of months.
Ever since The Batman landed to a rousing critical and commercial success, the sequel has been hotly anticipated and a priority for director Matt Reeves. Nonetheless, developing the project in the ever-shifting sands of studio priorities took its toll. At one point, Reeves was spearheading three spinoff television series in addition to Part II. Only The Penguin emerged from that time with the other storylines seemingly wrapped back into the upcoming film. It remains to be seen, of course, how many of those ideas will be part of Reeves’ final script.
Beyond the returning Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, and (for at least a few scenes) Colin Farrell, Part II will feature Scarlett Johannson, Sebastian Stan, and Charles Dance. The characters each are playing remain unconfirmed with many suspecting they will be various members of the Dent family while Stan is also said to be portraying Victor . No matter the truth, the film is set in the winter following the flooding of Gotham as the city and Batman (Pattinson) cope with a new crisis.
The film also remains separate from the emerging DC Cinematic Universe and withing its own pocket reality that, at one point, was meant to be called The Batman Epic Crime Saga. It is unclear if this is still the plan considering the length of development and DC Studio’s desire to have Batman in its mainline shared reality. The film is on its way, though, and it will hopefully maintain the standard of the first entry in the series.
