SDCC 2026: Dynamite’s Compact Editions Continue With ‘Vampirella: Kurt Busiek Collection’

While many comic book readers enjoy what is now the standardized size for collected editions — the beloved trade paperback dimensions emulating the traditional comic book size — publishers have found compact or digest formats to also be a popular way for readers new and old to access vintage comics. Dynamite began their compact edition program in the last year and it continues with a special Vampirella release.

Just ahead of Comic-Con International: San Diego, the company announced on Monday the forthcoming Vampirella: Kurt Busiek Collection Compact Edition. The 480-page tome collects the writer’s stories from the later 20th century into a 5.5″ by 8.5″ form. Stories from this era include 1991’s “Morning in America” storyline, the Summer Nights special one-shot, and “Dracula War.” Also along for the ride: writer Tom Sniegoski and a wide roster of artists including Louis La Chance, Louis Small Jr., Dave Cockrum, James Fry, and Richard Howell among others.

Originally published by Harris Comics, Busiek and company’s tales represent a time between original Vampi publisher Warren Publishing’s stewardship of the character and Dynamite’s long-standing relationship with the Daughter of Drakulon.

While the largest page count of the company’s compact editions, Vampirella: Kurt Busiek Collection Compact Edition will be available for $9.99 in the US this October.
