Date For Your Diary: Kings Heath Comic Con With Very Special Guest Mark Millar

Want to see Mark Millar this year? There’s only one comics festival/convention you’ll want to be headed to — High Vis Kings Heath Comic Con, Kings Heath, Birmingham UK — 19th September 2026
Organised by our very own Senior Editor Olly MacNamee, who’s way too ethical to blow his own trumpet here — but when something is this good, you just have to shout about it, and if he won’t, I damn well will.
Taking place in the happening suburb of Birmingham, this is the second High Vis/Kings Heath Comic Con, and it promises to be bigger and better than last year, even without the announcement of a rather high-profile guest this week — yes, Mark Millar, creator of so many comics, including Superman: Red Son, The Ultimates, Civil War and Old Man Logan before creating his highly successful titles as the Millarverse, including Wanted, Kick-Ass, Jupiter’s Legacy, Secret Service, Big Game, as well as new title, Star-Crossed, through Dark Horse Comics.
It’s likely his one and only appearance at a Comic Con for some time, and his first comic con for nearly a decade.
Plus there’s already a rather stellar line-up announced: The likes of 2000 AD stars Phil Winslade, Ian Edginton, and John McCrea, Beano artists Laura Howell and comics legend Hunt Emerson, you get to meet creators including Will Potter, Ian Richardson, Paul McCaffrey, JaKE Detonator, Lew Stringer, Sonia Leong, and Kev F Sutherland.
Olly, Kings Heath Comic Con Director, said:
“After the huge success of last year’s show, I wanted to do something bigger and bolder and really put Kings Heath Comic Con on the map in our second year. And you can’t get bigger than Mark Millar, I’d argue. This is big for our comic convention — which really does focus on comics and not TV or film stars — and big for Birmingham. I couldn’t be more excited!”
Plus, there’s plenty of publishers, including Birmingham’s own Time Bomb Comics and the excellent Euro comics publishers Cinebook. Then there’s the welcome return of the 501st Legion UK Garrison, Star Wars cosplayers who always deliver a load of fun for all the family.
Everything happens under one roof in the Kings Heath All-Saints Community Centre. It’s so easy to get to from central Birmingham, with routes via train and bus.
And of course, Olly and the team will be giving something back to the community of Kings Heath, with a special in-person-only charity art auction in support of the Kings Heath Food Bank.
It all happens on Saturday 19th September from 10am-5pm. You really ought to be there.
Who knows what they’ll end up doing this year — after all, last year saw this thing of beauty taking up permanent residence on the streets of Kings Heath …
