Trailer Watch: ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’
by Tito W. James
In The Thomas Crown Affair, a sophisticated and handsome thief pulls off the crime of the century and finds himself pitted against a sexy and sleek nemesis as powerful as he is. Michael B. Jordan directs and stars in this third iteration of the concept following on from the 1968 original and the 1999 remake. As a filmmaker, Jordan showcased his directing chops in Creed III, which had a surprising amount of pathos and creative formalism — even to a reviewer who has no attachment to the Rocky franchise. He has a unique cinematic perspective and fans can see what he’s been cooking in 2027.
Per the plot synopsis, “Thomas Crown (Jordan) is a sophisticated billionaire who lives by his own rules. Charming, fearless and always several moves ahead, Crown secretly orchestrates elaborate heists that appear impossible to execute—and even harder to prove.
But after a spectacular art theft captures the world’s attention, a relentless former FBI agent (Adria Arjona) begins following the trail. As their pursuit develops into a seductive game of suspicion, attraction and deception, neither is willing to reveal what they truly want.
With powerful enemies closing in and a dangerous adversary (Kenneth Branagh) threatening everything Crown has planned, every decision becomes part of a much larger mystery. In a world where appearances can be carefully manufactured, the person standing closest may be the one hiding the greatest secret.
Every move is calculated.
Every glance is a challenge.
And the greatest theft may be only the beginning.”
Written by Drew Pearce, Jason Hall and Alan Trustman, The Thomas Crown Affair arrives on March 5th, 2027.
