Review: ‘Freaks’ Sequeele’ Vol. 3 Is Progressing Plots

Summary
The adventures at the Faculty of Education for Apprentice Heroes continue. First off, the students of a rival school for heroes seek to fight our favorite assemblage. Also a tango lesson occurs for one student while a detour to Hell happens for others. What do these events have to do with each other and the schools?

7.4/10There is a prose section in this volume, and this may be a deterrent for certain fans of sequential art.
Unfortunately, the text is also rather small for the majority of this section which means that there may be trouble with reading it. On the plus side, it is an extremely small amount of pages that make up this section. Another good thing is that there are some drawings that act like sketches in a journal or diary. Still, those with vision problems may need to get assistance of some type to fully enjoy these pages. The rest of this volume has typos in various places that might be slightly jarring yet this is not to the extent that it is unreadable. Whether, the typos in this English edition are the fault of writer, artist, colorist Florent Maudoux or just translator Dan Christensen not having an editor is unknown.
A few plot details exist on the cover. However, none of these details will probably display as anything more than hints to new readers.
The color palette one perceives on the cover is pretty much the same as the range of hues on the select non-black and white interior pages. Only a few additional colors, such as blue, exist to differentiate the respective ranges.
There is a quickening for a few of the ongoing plot lines. Mainly those involving machinations of certain staff members at the Faculty of Education for Apprentice Heroes. However, Maudoux is still developing each plot line in a natural way without rushing them.
Maudoux’s art is massively overt most of the time, but there are still tons of subtle details. For example one of the creatures one will witness during a single panel should evoke a mixture of eldritch and mythological stories.
Localization and edition layout are the responsibility of Magnetic Press publisher Mike Kennedy. While this is not the most obvious creative job it is important to note since certain changes to references occur with a basis to each edition’s locale.
