Marvel Unlimited To Sunset At The End of the Year

by Austin Gorton

Marvel Unlimited, the app which allows users both to stream an extremely large number of Marvel issues and which is the repository for any digitally purchased Marvel comics, will be shutting down at the end of the year, Marvel Comics announced today. As part of their new partnership with Webtoon, a new Marvel Comics app is replacing it.

While the new app will be launching on November 16th, users will be able to access the existing Marvel Unlimited app through 12/7/2026 to import their existing library into the new app, including all existing Marvel Unlimited library, reading progress, redeemed comics and saved issues. The 7th is also when new content will stop being added to Marvel Unlimited, though users will be able to browse their library until 12/21 to ensure successful importation. The app itself will be removed and sunsetted on 12/28/2026.

David Abdo, General Manager, Marvel Comics and Franchise, said, “we know that there is a large audience of readers who are looking to experience comics digitally, and there is no richer library than Marvel Comics. We’re excited to partner with Webtoon, industry leaders in the space, to create a new app that can continue to grow and evolve with the way readers discover and experience comics.”

According to the statement, the new app will include archived comics, current comic book runs, and will support both traditional page-based comics and vertical-scroll formats. Character and creator pages will help fans follow journeys across arcs and storylines, while a new Pull List feature will display new issues from followed series, characters, and creators once they’re available. Additionally, users will be able to browse Upcoming Releases to see what’s coming, and the new app will feature an updated smart panel functionality for a better reading experience.

“The Marvel Comics app represents a new chapter in helping fans connect with the stories they love,” added Yongsoo Kim, President of Webtoon Entertainment. “By combining Webtoon’s expertise in building digital comics platforms with Marvel’s unparalleled storytelling legacy, we’re making it easier for longtime fans and new readers alike to explore Marvel’s universe and discover their next favorite story.”

The new Marvel Comics app will offer two subscription tiers: “Base” at $9.99/month (plus tax)/ $69.99/year (plus tax), including the existing Marvel Comics digital library, with new issues available 3 months after their print release. A second tier, “Ultimate,” will be available for $12.49/month (plus tax)/$99.99/year (plus tax), and will provide access to new issues 30 days after their print publication date.

Pre-registation is available now at marvel.webtoon.com to claim a limited-time founding member price of $59.99 (plus tax) for their first year of Ultimate Annual.
