Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren #2

By Charles Soule, Will Sliney, Guru-eFX, Joe Caramagna

Kylo Ren’s ex stops by for a visit, and she has presents!

  • I’m really digging the variant covers to this book that Dave Dorman is doing; really takes me back to the heady days of 1990s Star Wars comics.
  • Tava Ren debuted in the Legacy of Vader series which preceded this one. Soule seems a lot more interested in her than I do.
  • I don’t recognize the Force object Tava brings to Kylo Ren, but Star Wars is lousy with old relics that do funny stuff with the Force.
  • “Shadow and Shine” are the Knights of Ren’s terms for the different aspects of the Force aka the Dark side and the Light side.
  • Elphrona is an Outer Rim world heavy with Jedi artifacts from the High Republic era. Soule introduced it in Rise of Kylo Ren #2, and then brought it over to the High Republic publishing initiative.
  • Cortosis ore is the metal which disables lightsaber blades (most dramatically depicted in The Acolyte).

Tava doesn’t do much for me, but I’m all-in on Kylo Ren fighting a crazy-ass droid spouting seemingly-random words and still getting one up on Tava and the Knights. — 7/10

Speaking of the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, it was recently announced that Marvel will be reprinting the three omnibus volumes collecting the entirety of the original Star Wars comics next year (specifically March, May and June). This is addition to number of other special comic book reprints, including a new deluxe collection of the first six issues (adapting the first film).
