Frances O’Connor To Star In Locke And Key Pilot
by Erik Amaya
Frances O’Connor will take the Locke family to Maine.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Conjuring 2 actress will take the lead role in Hulu’s pilot of Locke and Key. She’ll play Nina Locke, a widow who moves her family to her husband’s ancestral home in Maine following his violent death. There, her children find the house has a magic to it, accessed by keys and doorways offering strange and wondrous powers.
Based on the IDW comic book by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, the pilot will be the second attempt to bring the world of Locke and Key to the screen. A previous attempt, staring The Lord of the Rings‘ Mirando Otto as Nina, Sarah Bolger as her daughter Kinsey, Jesse McCartney as older son Tyler and Nick Stahl as older son Uncle Duncan, resulted in a 2010 pilot for FOX. The network ultimately passed on the series, but the pilot haunts the doorways of the internet.
It director Andy Andy Muschietti will helm the pilot from a script by Hill and Bates Motel‘s Carlton Cuse. Cuse will also serve as showrunner should Hulu order a series. I definitely hope it works out this time. Locke and Key is a brilliant comic book and, in the right hands, would make for a great television program.
Of course, a big factor in the success of a potential series will be the casting of the Locke children, which have yet to be announced.
