While Preacher did not get the swift renewal it did last year, the show will return for a third season, according to executive producer Seth Rogen and Variety.
Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and the late Steve Dillon, Preacher tells the tale of complex country preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), the ne’er-do-well love of his life and their vampire best pal. When an angel/demon hybrid attaches itself to Jesse, he finds he can command people to worship at his struggling church. But once he discovers the Almighty has abdicated the Mercy Seat, he sets off on a quest to hunt him down and get some answers.
In the second year, Jesse, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) follow the music to New Orleans, where they encounter local gangsters and the Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish). Jesse confronts a new threat in the form of The Grail, a secret service hidden within the structure of the Vatican. Tulip also faces part of her past, but spends much of her time with Cassidy in Denis’s apartment.
Meanwhile, Eugene (Ian Coletti) wakes up in Hell (literally) and strikes up an acquaintance with Adolf Hitler (Noah Taylor).
The second season, meanwhile, debuts on home video on November 14th.
