Roy Harper is headed back to Star City for an extended, yet brief stay.
TVLine reports that actor Colton Haynes is set to return to Arrow for a “short arc” starting with the fifteenth episode of the sixth season. The actor previously teased a possible return as Roy Harper back in September, but The CW finally confirmed it today.
“Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team,” executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle revealed in a statement. They added that the visit will turn into “something surprising” when “he reunites with Thea and sparks a change in both of their lives that will have long-lasting consequences.”
The show already foreshadowed Roy’s return when Thea looked for him at Felicity and Oliver’s wedding reception. It’s possible their old romance may be the “something surprising,” but how can it advance if Roy is still, technically, a dead man? When Haynes first left the show in its third season, Roy took the fall for Oliver and claimed to be the Arrow. He also faked his own death so Quentin Lance would give up his pursuit of the vigilante. When Thea figured out the ruse, she tracked him down and attempted to get him back in his Arsenal costume and into her life. He, instead, inspired her to take his place as the Red Arrow — though most everyone called her “Speedy.”
Arrows returns January 18th with its tenth episode, meaning Roy Harper fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in action again.
