Add one more to the cinematic Marvel (or Shazam) Family.
Comicbook.com reports that This Is Us‘s Faithe Herman has joined the cast.
Based on the Captain Marvel created by Bill Parker and C.C Beck in Whiz Comics #2, the film centers on a young boy named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is given a magic word which transforms him into the world’s mightiest mortal (Zachary Levi). Gifted with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, Billy will face a tough road being a child and a superpowered man all at once. But it seems Billy will not be alone, thanks to fellow group home kids like Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), Eugene Choi (Ian Chen), Pedro Peña (Jovan Armand) and a presumed Mary Marvel (Grace Fulton).
The site theorized Herman will play Darla Dudley, nearly rounding out the Marvel Family as they appear in their New 52 forms.
Which isn’t a bad guess as the film appears to be taking a lot of its cues from the premise established in the 2011 reboot. Just a few days ago, Cooper Andrews joined the cast as one of the people in charge of the group home where this assortment of children will come to learn of Shazam.
Directed by Lights Out‘s David F. Sandberg, Shazam! is set to open on April 5th, 2019.
