Jack Quaid To Take The Lead In Amazon’s Adaptation of The Boys

 

Wee Hughie has finally been cast.
Deadline reports that actor Jack Quaid will star in Amazon’s adpatation of The Boys. Based on the Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson comic book originally published by DC Comics’ Wildstorm imprint in 2006, The Boys takes place in a world where superheroes are as corruptible and fallible as any other celebrity. A CIA squad known as “The Boys” is tasked with monitoring the superpowered community and taking action when necessary. The title left Wildstorm after six issues as DC allegedly became uncomfortable with the book’s anti-superhero tone. It found a home at Dynamite Entertainment. There, Ennis, Robertson and other contributors continued to weave their superheros-run-amuck tale until 2012.
Quaid will play Hughie, a young man introduced to The Boys after the death of his superhero girlfriend.
The series also features Anthony Starr as Homelander, the leader of the the series’s main superhero team, which also includes Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jesse T. Usher), The Deep (Chase Crawford), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). Collectively known as “The Seven,” they’re definitely caricatures of DC Comics’ Justice League; a parody which landed the the creative team in hot water when it was published by Wildstorm. During that initial storyline with the Seven, a young hero named Starlight — an analogue of Stargirl — saw the ugliness of the Seven firsthand. Erin Moriarty will play Stargirl in the series, suggesting the show will dive right into that infamous storyline.
The show is executive produced by Preacher‘s Seth Rogen and Aaron Goldberg as a direct-to-series commitment. It is expected to debut sometime next year.
