Inhumans’ Anson Mount Gets His Voice Back As Captain Pike On Star Trek: Discovery

The U.S.S Enterprise has its captain: the king of Atillan.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Inhumans star Anson Mount will play Captain Christopher Pike in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. The character originally debut in Star Trek‘s first pilot, “The Cage.” There he was played as a no-nonsense, but fatigued commander by King of Kings‘ Jeffrey Hunter. The character re-emerged in Star Trek‘s first two-part episode, “The Menageire,” which used footage from “The Cage” and actor Sean Kenney as an older and injured version of Pike. In the 2009 Star Trek reboot film, the character was played by Bruce Greenwood.
Mount played the King of Attilan, Black Bolt, in all eight episodes of ABC’s Inhumans series in Fall of 2017. And though ABC has yet to indicate whether or not the show has been cancelled, Mount’s new commitments to Discovery may suggest the end of that series. If nothing else, Mount will offer the character a performance similar to Hunter and utilize the one asset Mount could not employ on Inhumans: his own voice.
As Discovery ended its first season, the Discovery received a distress call from the Enterprise. Lead character Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Ambassador Sarek (James Frain) traded knowing looks as Sarek’s son Spock is a member of that ship’s crew. Many are already speculating will see the character very soon and, one imagines, he will be played by a new actor in lieu of the current film series Spock, Zachary Quinto.
Star Trek: Discovery returns to CBS All-Access sometime in the near future.
