Thirteen Reasons Why Seasons 2 Turns A Little Paranormal

by Christine Marie Attardo

Last Spring, our minds were blown by Netflix’s adaptation of Jay Asher’s hit novel Thirteen Reasons Why. What started out as a show to spread awareness became a real concern for many viewers and parents of said viewers. Thankfully for many, the show was a captivating set of episodes that has now led to a second season.
The original premise of Thirteen Reasons Why centered around Hannah Baker, a high school student who commits suicide. Here’s the book jacket description:

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.

Netflix’s adaptation followed that description, pretty much to a T. As someone who read the book, I found it to be a pretty close fit. Now we are moving on to the second season and it looks like things are getting crazy!

So, there isn’t a second book. For fans, this is a really interesting turn of events. I kind of like the paranormal twist to everything. Hannah still appearing is pretty cool to me. I feel like that will keep the intensity really going. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds with the other characters. It’s such a diverse group with so many different events going on in their lives.
Thirteen Reasons Why Season 2 premiers on Netflix May 18th.
