It seems that we could be entering a new action film renaissance with films like Kingsman: Secret Service, John Wick, Everly, and Hardcore Henry. These films are foregoing realism for stylization and use the tropes of the action genre as a tool rather than a crutch.
Here are three trailers for new action films that could could blow our minds this summer.
“My wife’s been murdered blah, blah, blah.” Who cares? Some dude has a computer-chip put in his brain that turns him into a freaking ninja! The appeal of Upgrade is the banter between the hero and the computer chip that’s in control of his body when he’s fighting. This weird premise combined with a fist-pumping soundtrack could make for a fun action flick.
Hotel Artemis is a secret hospital for criminals to get patched up after a heist. Similar to the Hotel Continental in John Wick, it’s against the rules to kill other patients in the hotel. While the premise sounds familiar, the film’s near-future setting could make for a unique experience.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Muppets were loose cannon cops patrolling a crime-infested Sesame Street? Well, I guess we’re about to find out. Get ready to ruin your childhood in the Happy Time Murders.
