Rick Remender now has two comic books making the leap to live action.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edgar Ramirez is in talks to star in Netflix’s adaptation of Remender’s The Last Days of American crime. Drawn by Greg Tocchini, the story centers on Graham Brick, a thief who has one week to pull of a grand heist before the US government broadcasts a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts.
Originally published between 2009 and 2010, publisher Radical Studios attempted to develop the miniseries as a film for actor Sam Worthington in 2011. The new version of the project will be directed by Taken 2 director Olivier Megaton with a screenplay from Oblivion‘s Karl Gajdusek. Radical is still involved with Jesse Berger producing the Netflix film, Jason Michael Berman of Mandalay Pictures, Barry Levine and Kevin Turen are also set to serve as producers.
Besides writing comic books like Black Science, Low and Fear Agent, Remender also serves as showrunner on Syfy’s Deadly Class, based on his comic book series with artist Wes Craig. That series is set to debut next year.
